Upper Darby Man Admits Wounding Police Officer

An Upper Darby man pleaded guilty today to shooting a township police officer last spring.

KYW's John McDevitt reports that 27-year-old Marvin Marmolejos admitted shooting Upper Darby police officer Raymond Blohm four times on May 27th, at Copley Road and Ludlow Street.

He also told the judge today he had drugs on him when he was stopped for drinking alcohol on the street, and that's why he fired at the officer.

Officer Blohm was wearing a bulletproof vest but still carries one of the  bullets in his back.  He is currently undergoing rehabilitation and hopes to return to work in the fall.

Michael Chitwood  is Upper Darby's superintendent of police:

"These types of altercations happen all too frequently in all of our communities.  Ray is lucky to be alive today.  I think what saved his life was a bulletproof vest."

The charges against Marmolejos include attempted murder and assault on a law enforcement officer.

The mandatory minimum sentence upon conviction is 20 years in jail.

Sentencing has been set for  November 8th.
