Youth Football Player Dies From Injury
A youth football player who suffered a neck injury in practice has died at a Philadelphia hospital.
KYW's Al Novack reports family members say 15-year-old Quadaar White (photo) died Tuesday at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. He'd been injured a week earlier during a football practice in Upper Darby.
White was injured during a Greater 69th Street Wildcats practice last week. Police say White's head struck another player's knee and he wasn't breathing when paramedics arrived.
Family, friends, and teammates gathered for a vigil Tuesday night at the field where White was injured on August 24:
(Mother of friend:) "He always came to my house to play with my son. He was a nice boy."
Friends and family have also set up memorial Facebook pages for Quadaar.
Funeral arragements are pending.
Members of the cheerleading squad set up a makeshift memorial and Quadaar's sister addressed the crowd that filled the field and spilled onto the street.
