Upper Darby Police Officers Will Not Face Charges Following Incident With Juveniles
UPPER DARBY, Pa. (CBS) — Two Upper Darby police officers who were recently reinstated after an incident involving juveniles in custody will not face criminal charges.
Previously, Upper Darby Police announced that officers Michael Givens and Ryan Wisely would be back on the job as of Wednesday, Nov. 13 (see related story).
Both were fired this summer following an incident caught on surveillance video involving three juvenile suspects who were in police custody.
Upper Darby Mayor Thomas Micozzie says surveillance video from the incident won't be released and that both officer Givens and Wisely both believe what they did was wrong. He says it's time to move forward.
"I don't think six months without pay or benefits and all they've been through with them and their families would be considered lightly in my book," Micozzie said.
On Wednesday, Nov. 27, officials announced that Givens and Wisely would not face charges.
"It has been concluded that there is insufficient evidence that the officers violated any criminal statutes," an official statement reads. "The investigation by the Office of the District Attorney and review of this matter is complete."
