UPDATE: Bucks Co. Company Admits More Than 2 Dozen Local Restaurants Hacked

NEWTOWN, Pa., (CBS) -- KYW Newsradio first reported Friday morning about the data breach affecting more than 100 restaurants across the country that use a checkout system from a Bucks County company.
Now, Signature Systems of Newtown, Pa. has quietly revealed more details about the locations that were compromised. They include 27 restaurants across the Philadelphia area and South Jersey.
Signature Systems says someone obtained a user name and password and was able to remotely log in to the registers at these restaurants. Malicious software was installed to steal card details when swiped.
The first breach happened in mid-June, but most of the affected locations in our area weren't in the clear until last month. The malware was cleaned from a Philadelphia pizzeria just last week.
Signature, which hasn't responded to our request for comment, says on its website that it can't alert the victims who dined at these restaurants because the company "cannot identify which specific cards were actually taken."
It's the same attack that hobbled more than 200 Jimmy John's sandwich shop locations, including one in Newark, Delaware.
