University Of Delaware Says It Was Target Of Cyberattack Affecting More Than 72,000
NEWARK, Del. (CBS) – Officials at the University of Delaware say the school has experienced a cyberattack that affects more than 72,000 people.
The University announced Tuesday that files had been taken that included confidential personal information about both current and past employees, including student employees.
According to the website, the criminal attack took advantage of "a vulnerability in software acquired from a vendor."
The personal information compromised includes names, addresses, UD IDs (employee identification numbers) and Social Security numbers.
Those with UDelNet IDs and passwords can check to see they are affected by using the IT Security Verification application on a special IT Security Response website.
The University also says that it is working with both the FBI and Mandiant, a private computer security firm, to investigate the incident.
