Univ. Of Sciences Doctor Conducting Study On Obese People With Chronic Pain

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Local researchers are trying of figure out how to best treat patients who are obese and are in chronic pain.
It's not uncommon for obese people to be in chronic pain with various conditions.
"Maybe they have back pain, knee pain, they might have chronic headaches."
Dr. Amy Janke, assistant professor of psychology at the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia, is conducting a study to find a way to help these patients handle both conditions.
"Our goal is really to understand what works best for individuals who have both obesity and chronic pain so we can maximize their achievement of weight loss and pain management."
Patients will be tought skills to manage pain, to lose weight or do both. Participants need to be 18 or older, have a body mass index of at least 30 and be in chronic pain. You can find out more at 215-596-7185.
