Union To Host Sporting KC Saturday, Still In Playoff Mix
By Matt Leon
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – It all comes down to the final weekend for the Philadelphia Union.
John Hackworth's squad still has a chance to make the post-season for the second time in franchise history as they get ready to play their final match of the regular season Saturday against Sporting Kansas City in Chester.
Philadelphia does NOT control it's own destiny. They need to win, a draw does them no good, and then they need help from D.C. United (playing Houston) and Columbus (playing New England). For a breakdown of the scenarios, check this great primer out from the Union's website (CLICK HERE).
The Union will not have the services of midfielder and captain Brian Carroll on Saturday. he is suspended for the game due to yellow card accumulation. This is a big hole for the Union to fill, as Carroll has played all but one minute of MLS action to this point of the season.
This will be the third match-up between the Union and Sporting KC this season. Philadelphia lost the first match, 3-1, in the regular season opener back on March 2nd. Then the Union picked up arguably its most impressive regular season win in the second match-up, grabbing a 1-0 decision in Kansas City on September 27th.
KYW's Matt Leon spoke with Philly.com's Jonathan Tannenwald about the Union's post-season chances and what they have to do to win on Saturday.
