Union Head North Of The Border To Battle Montreal
By Matt Leon
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – The Philadelphia Union will play a key match on Saturday night as they visit the Montreal Impact.
Philadelphia is coming off a stretch of three matches in eight days, which saw them go 2-1. They beat Chicago twice and lost to the LA Galaxy.
"Before the three games in eight days in eight days, we had a goal of seven (points)", defender Amobi Okugo tells KYW Newsradio. "Unfortunately we didn't accomplish it (two wins gave them six points). But the way we bounced back after the LA result (shutting out Chicago) was a good result of character. And it was good to stay in contention in the playoffs."
Right now, the Union sit in 5th place in MLS Eastern Division with 18 points (5-4-3 record). They are two points behind the Impact, who are tied for third with a 6-2-2 ledger (20 points).
"First and foremost, they've got great experienced guys like (forward Marco) Di Vaio, (defender Alessandro) Nesta, and (defender Matteo) Ferrari," Okugo says about the Impact. "So they have a lot of experience and tactically, they play a very nice system. So we know, going away, we're going to have to buckle down and play tough to not give them as many chances as their accustom to."
Okugo has played very good soccer this season, starting all 12 games for the Union this season, scoring a pair of goals and adding two assists.
Philadelphia has done nice work on the road this season, going 3-2-1 in six matches away from Chester. But Montreal is 4-0-1 this season at home.
The Union and the Impact will get underway at 7:00pm on Saturday.
