Unemployed Fear End Of Benefits
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - An analysis of Bureau of Labor Statistics data shows a record 30 percent of the nation's unemployed have been out of work at least a year. Experts say there seem to be no end in sight.
63-year-old Bill West of Philadelphia lost his job in then insurance industry in January of 2009. He's been on some interviews but no jobs offers:
"People are talking about my age group just sort of aging out and just going into social security and being fully retired and I have to say I'm approaching my 64th birthday and that appears what is going to happen."
John Dobbs with Philadelphia Unemployment Project says there are other concerns:
"The extended unemployment program is about to come to an end on November 30th and then we are very concerned that the program needs to be extended. And depending on the elections, maybe that won't be, and we see that as a big problem facing unemployed people."
