GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, N.J. (CBS) -- Today kicks off the "UDrive, UText, UPay" campaign for many police departments in the state of New Jersey.
Denise Krieger of Sicklerville says, "I once saw somebody ready the newspaper on their steering wheel."
Gloucester Township is one department in our area participating in the campaign.
They received a federal grant that will help them up patrols for most of April.
"We received $5,000 from Highway Traffic Safety, which allows 100 hours of enforcement," said Lieutenant Brian McKendry. "We have a couple of officers working each day and they go out and they hit targeted areas where we have high traffic volume and high crash rates."
The efforts begin today, April 1st and go through April 21st.
April is designated as National Distracted Driver Awareness Month.
