Police: DUI Driver Crashes Into Philly Business, Then Tries To Run Away
PHILADELPHIA (CBS)—A driver, who police believe was under the influence, is in custody after authorities say he crashed into a Northern Liberties business and tried to flee the scene.
It happened on Wednesday afternoon on N. 2nd Street at the Urban Village Brewing Company.
Cell phone video obtained by CBS3 shows a crashed U-Haul through the wall at the business. Moments after impact the driver can been seen falling out of the truck and running from the scene.
"It just seems unreal. It felt like a movie honestly. It was just a bad movie I guess," said Mishel Taylor, who was nearly struck by the truck.
Taylor was sitting inside the brewery enjoying lunch when the U-Haul came crashing into the building. It missed her by a few feet.
"The driver was in the car he was screaming and yelling. My immediate reaction was to get him out of the truck," she said.
Detectives tell CBS3 that the 41-year-old driver was traveling the wrong way North Second Street. He smashed into several cars before going into the building.

"I saw my car was moved from its normal parking spot and slammed into a nice light post," said Joshua Davidson.
Employees inside took cover. Zack Zitara was behind the bar and saw the driver rush out of the truck.
"The guy obviously didn't want any help. He was wacked out of his mind. He was on something. He ended up crawling out from under the van," said Zitara.
Police transported the driver to the hospital where he is in custody.
Tom Revelli, co-owner of Urban Village Brewing Company, released the following statement on the incident:
"This afternoon a U-Haul truck crashed into our brewery roughly around 1 p.m. Although the brewery windows along North 2nd Street are badly damaged, we are sincerely thankful no one at our establishment or otherwise was hurt. We are currently working to clean up the mess, replace the windows and will be back up and running in time for dinner service."
