2 Women Found Shot Dead In Oxford Circle, Suspect At Large
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Two young lives came to the same violent and tragic end in Northeast Philadelphia Monday night. Now, the search is on for the gunman who shot and killed two women inside a home.
One of the victims was 21-years-old, the other, was 19.
Police say they were called to the 5400 block of Rutland Street in the city's Oxford Circle neighborhood for reports of gunshots when they made the discovery.
Capt. Frank Bachmayer with the Philadelphia Police Department said, "All we know is we respond, we find two females shot multiple times on the second floor. We're now trying to gather information from eyewitnesses to see who committed this crime."
According to police, there were signs of forced entry and Eyewitness News learned from sources the shootings may have been the result of a suspected home invasion.
Family members later told Eyewitness News nothing was taken from the home and some even told reporters, the victims may have known their killer(s).
Family members identified the victims as 21-year-old Marcedes Ivery and 19-year-old Tiffany Barnhill. According to family, the two were cousins and the two were inseparable.
Friends said Ivery worked at a nursing home and was going to go back to school to become a nurse. Eyewitness News learned Barnhill worked in retail, most recently as a part-time employee at a Center City sneaker store.
Ivery's aunt, Fanita Mitchell said, "They were good girls. They were loved by their family. I never knew them to be in any kind of trouble with anybody."
But at least one family member, who wished to remain anonymous, told reporters Barnhill had just broken up with her live-in boyfriend of less than a year and he had threatened to harm her as a result.
When asked about the break-up, Fanita explained she was unaware of such news and added, "I just know they were good girls and they were always together, so this is sad."
As of Monday night, police had not made any arrests, had not named any suspects or figured out a motive.
