BEAR, Del. (CBS)--Delaware State Police have arrested and charged Darrin E. Mitchell, 47, of New Castle, DE and George Dudley Jr., 22, of Philadelphia in connection with the armed robbery of a Wendy's Restaurant on Saturday, October 19th.
The robbery occurred at approximately 8:53 p.m. An employee of Wendy's was seated on a bench outside of the restaurant on a break and was approached by two Black males wearing bandanas on their faces in an attempt to conceal their identities.
One of the suspects displayed a handgun and placed it to the victim's back and forced him inside of the business. Once inside, the suspects shouted orders at the other employees, demanding their cell phones and money, and then forced them at gunpoint into the walk-in freezer.
One of the employees was able to flee the restaurant and ran to a local business requesting to call the police.
After the suspects forced the employees into the freezer, they forced the restaurant manager to open the safe located inside of the business. The manager complied and the suspects removed an undisclosed amount of cash and credit cards. The suspects then forced the manager to the floor and ordered him not to move and stole his cell phone.
There were no injuries sustained during the robbery.
Both suspects fled the store on foot and were observed by a witness that saw them running through the parking lot wearing the bandannas on their faces and getting into a black Lexus.
The witness was able to obtain the Delaware registration tag on the vehicle and provided it to responding Troopers.
Troopers responded to the registered address of the vehicle located in the unit block of Palmetto Circle, New Castle, DE and made contact with one of the suspects later identified as Darrin E. Mitchell as he exited the house and also George Dudley Jr. located inside.
Troopers were able to locate property connecting both to the armed robbery. Both suspects were taken into custody without incident.
A search warrant was obtained and executed at the residence with Troopers locating a .22 caliber semiautomatic handgun along with cash and property connected to the robbery.
Mitchell and Dudley were charged with the above crimes and committed to a Correctional Institution on $368,000 Cash Bond each.
