Two People Charged For Alleged Assault Of Teen In Berks County Hotel
MIDDLETOWN, Pa. (AP) — Criminal charges have been filed against two people from Berks County stemming from the reported rape of a high school student inside a Pennsylvania hotel.
Lower Swatara Township police on Tuesday announced warrants for 23-year-old Rafael Gomez-Echavarria and 25-year-old Alicia Colon.
Authorities allege Gomez-Echavarria raped the girl, now 16, inside a hotel room on Aug. 4.
Investigators said Colon didn't notify authorities out of fear she'd lose her coaching job at Kutztown High School and tried to convince the girl to forget about the incident.
Police said the teenager was in town to watch her sister compete in the Keystone Games near Harrisburg.
Superintendent Katherine Metrick said Colon was a field hockey coach at Kutztown for the past two seasons but no longer works there. Metrick didn't comment further.
