Two Homes Damaged After Windy Weather Fells Tree In Abington

ABINGTON, Pa. (CBS) -- The blast of winter may have been brief, but on Adams Avenue in Abington, the damage was enough for the whole season. Powerful gusts toppled a Norwood Maple tree, sending part of the trunk crashing down on two homes.
"It could've been much more dangerous," said David Kaufman, owner of one of the homes the tree hit.
Kaufman says the falling tree sounded like a rocket as it ripped off his gutter and hit his roof. He says the street is normally full of kids, and everyone was lucky that there were no injuries.
Across the Delaware Valley, temperatures plunged toward freezing while wind whipped across the area. Snow showers blew across the region--the briefest reminder of what winter can bring to the area in hurry.
"Each of those homes sustained $10,000 of damage," said Mark Baylets, the owner of Mark's Tree Service.
The fallen tree in Abington broke windows in Helen Leopold's home when it came down. It also did damage to her chimney and forced her to prepare for a night away from home.
"Broken glass came down the stairway," said Leopold.
While the blast of winter weather may be gone, it left its mark.
