Two Del. State Troopers Injured In Scuffle With Suspect
WILMINGTON, Del. (CBS) – Two Delaware State Troopers were injured while apprehending a suspect in possession of heroin on Thursday.
The incident happened at 8:20 p.m. in the 2900 block of N Market Street in Wilmington when officers observed a pedestrian engage in a drug transaction with a passenger inside a 2006 Pontiac Grand Prix.
The officers stopped the vehicle and approached the man involved in the transaction, 35-year-old David Rhoades, of Townsend.
After ordering Rhoades to exit the car, one of the Troopers attempted to handcuff him, but he resisted and tried to flee.
Both Troopers struggled with Rhoades, and all three fell to the ground. One of the officers tried to Taser Rhoades, but before he could do so, Rhoades attempted to steal his Taser.
Ultimately, Troopers were able to restrain and arrest Rhoades.
One officer was treated at Wilmington Hospital for hand and leg injuries, and the other was treated for a minor hand injury.
Rhoades was transported to the hospital for treatment for a pre-existing medical condition.
Rhoades is now facing charges of possession of a controlled substance in a tier II quantity, two counts of assault second degree, and related charges.
