Two Arrested In Gloucester Township After Posting False Threats On Facebook
GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, NJ (CBS) – Two former students of a South Jersey high school are under arrest after allegedly posting threats "to shoot up Highland High School" on Facebook.
Police in Gloucester Township say they became aware of the threat on February 18th around 7 p.m. after it was posted on the Facebook account of 21-year-old former student Brandon Worley.
Investigators immediately responded to Worley's home on the 600 block of Tatum Street in West Deptford, where they arrested Worley and his 24-year-old roommate, Ramon Leon. Leon was also identified as a former student at Highland High School.
Police searched the house and found no weapons or destructive devices.
During the investigation, the suspects claimed they were attempting to see what Facebook would and wouldn't allow them to post. Prior to the threat against the high school, Worley and Leon had posted vulgar and inappropriate sexually explicit photos to Facebook, but the previous posts did not mention Highland High School.
Both suspects alleged they were only joking and were charged with 3rd degree False Public Alarms and 3rd degree Terroristic Threats.
At this time, it's believed that there is no credible threat to Highland High School or any other school in the area.
The Facebook site involved in the incident was disabled by Facebook's legal department.
