Tweeting, Deleting Help Build Rutgers Webcam Case
TRENTON, N.J. (AP) - The roommate of a Rutgers University student who killed himself after authorities said his intimate encounter with a man was captured by a webcam is finding that it's not just what you tweet, but also what you delete, that can get you in trouble.
Dharun Ravi was charged last week with several counts of bias intimidation and invasion of privacy. But perhaps just as surprising were the charges of evidence tampering than an indictment said stemmed from Ravi's attempts to delete text message and a Twitter post.
Prosecutors say Ravi and another student used a webcam to watch part of Tyler Clementi's encounter with another man.
Clementi jumped to his death off the George Washington Bridge in September.
Several messages left with Ravi's attorney weren't returned
