TSA Gives Septa High Marks For Transit Security
By Paul Kurtz
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Transportation Security Administration today honored Septa for having one of the best-run mass transit security forces in America.
Septa is one of 17 rail and mass transit agencies nationwide to earn the "Gold Standard" rating on a security assessment program administered by the TSA.
Agency administrator John Pistole (third from right, in blue suit) says Septa scored high marks across all categories.
"They include a review of topics such as an agency's security plans, training, drills, exercise programs, public outreach, and background check programs," Pistole said.
"Our preparedness is the result of intense detailed planning and coordination by our police, systems safety, and operations managers, the implementation of those plans by a dedicated police force, and an unparalleled level of collaboration with our regional law enforcement partners," said Septa chief of police Richard Evans (center of photo).
