Trump Wants Piece of New Jersey's Nascient Online Gambling Industry
ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (CBS) - It's not legal to gamble online in this country, but one of Altantic City's casino operators has served notice that it wants to compete, should that law ever change.
The heads-up came courtesy of a two-page filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission from Trump Entertainment Resorts. In it, the company announces that, should online betting become legal either nationwide or within the State of New Jersey, they'll seek to set up a joint venture to get in on the game.
Garden State lawmakers are preparing a second attempt to allow online bets strictly within its borders, the new measure addressing the concerns of Governor Chris Christie that all sorts of commerical establishments could turn into Internet gambling parlors.
This new plan would restrict such gaming to individuals playing on their own computers and would, if approved, make New Jersey first in the nation to legalize any form of online wagering.
