Truck Hits, Kills Motorist On NJ Turnpike Off-Ramp
NEWARK, N.J. (AP) — State police say a motorist who got out of a vehicle on a New Jersey Turnpike off-ramp was struck and killed moments later by a tractor-trailer.
The accident occurred around 5 a.m. Sunday on the ramp leading to Interchange 14, which is not far from Newark Liberty Airport.
The driver apparently had been traveling southbound in the outer roadway of the turnpike shortly before making the turn off. It's not clear why the driver exited the vehicle, but authorities say several minor accidents had been reported in the area around that time due to icy road conditions.
The name of the person killed and the truck driver were not disclosed. No charges have been filed, but the investigation is ongoing.
No other injuries were reported in the crash.
