Tropical Activity Could Cause Havoc For Holiday Weekend At Jersey Shore
ATLANTIC CITY, NJ (CBS) -- Tropical activity in the Atlantic Ocean could cause havoc at the Jersey Shore for Labor Day Weekend.
Rip current warnings are in affect and there could be rain and 40 mile per hour winds on Sunday according to the National Weather Service's Wednesday afternoon update. This comes as some beach patrols have lost about half of their staffs because of lifeguards going back to school.
"It's going to be a challenge because we are with a diminished staff and we have three beach concerts this weekend. Fortunately we have a lot of the college aged kids coming home to help out for that," says Lt. John Ammerman from the Atlantic City Beach Patrol.
City officials say Live Nation is paying to have extra lifeguards on hand for Zac Brown Band on Thursday, Florida Georgia Line on Saturday and Blink 182 on Monday.
As crews prepare the massive beach stage in Atlantic City, they may work just as quickly to pull part of it down at some point.
Forecasters say there could be tropical storm strength winds (39-73 mph) on Sunday because of Tropical Storm Hermine. According to Live Nation the stage is designed to withstand hurricane force winds because the roof can slide to the ground with a motorized system.

Anyone planning a trip to the shore needs to prepare themselves for dynamic weather this holiday weekend.
"First and foremost they need to swim as close to the lifeguard stand as possible and only swim when the lifeguards are on duty," says Ammerman.
