Trooper Injured, Suspect Killed In Claymont Robbery
CLAYMONT, DE (CBS) -- Delaware State Police are investigating a robbery that occurred at a Rite-Aid in Claymont, DE on Sunday morning around 1:35 a.m. The robbery suspect, who was shot and killed by the responding trooper, dragged the trooper with his vehicle according to the Delaware State Police.
According to authorities, the trooper approached the suspect's vehicle at the rear of the business. The suspect attempted to flee as the trooper stood at his open driver's side door. The suspect dragged the trooper as he reversed the vehicle.
Authorities identified the suspect as Michael L. McKillop, 35, of Philadelphia.
According to police, the trooper was able to get to his weapon and shot McKillop in the upper-torso.
The trooper sustained non-life threatening injuries and was transported to Wilmington Hospital where he was later released.
The suspect was airlifted to Christiana Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
Authorities say that during the incident, McKillop was operating a burgundy 1999 Oldsmobile which was reported stolen out of the Philadelphia Police Department.
