Trio Set For Sentencing In Fatal Beating Outside Citizens Bank Park
PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- Three men who fatally attacked a man outside a Phillies game are scheduled to be sentenced in the brawl police say was sparked by a spilled drink.
Francis Kirchner, Charles Bowers and James Groves face up to 40 years behind bars in the July 2009 death of David Sale Jr. All three men are scheduled for sentencing Tuesday.
All three Philadelphia men pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter in October.
Authorities say Sale and a group of friends were at a stadium bar when they had an altercation with the defendants. Both groups were kicked out of the bar but the confrontation escalated in the parking lot.
Kirchner had been charged with first-degree murder and Bowers and Groves were charged with third-degree murder before their pleas.
