Tricky Situation With Parking Meters And Kiosks On The Same Block
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - You need the wisdom of Solomon to figure this out.
You drive into Center City, park on a block that has meters AND a kiosk. Which do you use to pay for your parking -- the wrong choice will cost you!
The 600 block of South Third Street is one of the roughly five streets in the city that feature both metered and kiosk spaces.
Recently the owners of two compact cars were able to park at a single metered space there but used the kiosk to pay for the space, placing the purchase slip on their dashboards. Both owners emerged to find tickets on their windshield for an expired meter.
Corrine O'Connor, director of on-street parking for the Philadelphia Parking Authority, says that is a unique problem.
"Because there are so few blocks that actually have it, it wasn't discussed with the parking enforcement officers. Now that we are aware that has happened, we are going to discuss it with the parking enforcement officers and make sure that if they see a receipt, they should verify that it's the same kiosk is on the block."
O'Connor plans to talk with those officers in the next 24-48 hours. In the meantime, she can't guarantee you won't get a ticket, so if you park in front of a meter, pay the meter.
