Trenton Gun Buyback Nets Hundreds Of Weapons
TRENTON, N.J. (AP) — Authorities have collected hundreds of weapons during a weekend gun buyback program in New Jersey's capital city.
Numerous handguns and some sawed-off shotguns were among the weapons collected during the two-day event in Trenton which concluded Saturday.
Authorities say people were allowed to drop off the weapons at two city churches with no questions asked. The final tally of guns received and the money paid out will be released Tuesday
Participants received anywhere from $25 to $250 depending on the type of firearm, its legality and its condition. Authorities say all the weapons obtained through the program will be destroyed.
The $100,000 program was carried out through the cooperative efforts of the Attorney General's Office, the Mercer County Prosecutor's Office, Trenton police, the Mercer County Sheriff's Office and faith-based groups.
