Trending Social Media Dance-Off Originated In New Jersey
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The 'Running Man Challenge' is the latest dance craze sweeping the internet.
But before spreading around the world, it was actually created by two New Jersey teens.
The challenge is simple: do "the running man" - a dance where it looks like the person is running in place, done to the '90s radio classic "My Boo" by Ghost Town DJ's.
The trending social media dance-off went viral when two University of Maryland basketball players -- Jaylen Brantley and Jared Nickens -- posted a video about a month ago.
Now versions of other people doing the dance have spread to the NFL, police departments, and even Villanova basketball players.
The video originated four months ago with two North Jersey teens -- Kevin Vincent and Jeremiah Hall -- bored in high school finance class.
There are over 31,000 posts on Instagram using #runningmanchallenge.
"My Boo" -- the first and only Ghost Town DJ hit released 20 years ago -- has been rediscovered by a new generation, and reached the #25 spot on iTunes this week.
