Tree Climbing Classes For Women Only At Morris Arboretum This Weekend
By Mike DeNardo
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Women who aren't afraid to go out on a limb may want to take a special class on tree climbing this weekend.
They've run tree-climbing classes before at the Morris Arboretum.
"I think because they're mostly attended by men, it can be a little bit intimidating to women," says spokeswoman Susan Crane.
So on Saturday, the men will have to leave as the Arboretum holds its second tree-climbing class for women only. The $125 course is taught by Rachel Brudzinski, a onetime intern there who became a champion tree climber - and now works as an arborist at the New York Botanical Garden.
"Being a woman in a male-dominated industry, Rachel can give a little bit of a different understanding as to how women can have the same abilities," Crane says.
Women will learn the difference in tree-climbing technique because they have stronger legs compared to their body size, while men have stronger and backs.
Crane says women are actually more agile when it comes to tree-climbing.
Space for the unique course is limited.
