Travel Restrictions Announced For I-95 Beginning July 10
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- I-95 construction will impact traffic for commuters on the highway, beginning on July 10.
PennDOT announced the travel restrictions on Thursday. They will impact I-9 and Richmond Street due to construction at the Cottman Avenue and Girard Avenue interchanges.
The three-plus miles of I-95 that join Cottman and Girard is going through the process of being widened, while the Cottman and Girard exits are being rebuilt.
Restrictions will go into place on Sunday, July 10 and last through Saturday, July 16. They will begin at 8:00 p.m. each evening and end at 5:00 a.m. the next morning.
I-95 will be reduced to two lanes between the Bridge Street and Cottman Avenue exits heading northbound. The Cottman Avenue ramp, on the northbound side, will be closed for paving and drivers will be directed to use the Linden Avenue exit instead.
The Princeton Avenue on-ramp to I-95 will be closed each night for the installation of drain pipes.
Richmond Street will also be impact as drivers traveling on the street, between Cumberland Street and Lehigh Avenue, will see stoppages on the roadway from July 11 through July 15, each day from 7:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.
This work is associated with contracts underway to rebuild the Cottman Avenue (Route 73) and Girard Avenue interchanges and reconstruct and widen more than three miles of I-95 adjoining those interchanges.
PennDOT is urging drivers to account for the need of extra time as they travel through these areas.
