Man Injured After Box Of Ammunition Explodes In Delaware

NEW CASTLE, Del. (CBS) – A man was injured after a box he was carrying that contained ammunition exploded in Delaware Tuesday morning.
The incident happened at about 8 a.m. in front of a home on Van Dyke Drive in New Castle.
According to investigators, a man was picking up a box of old ammunition from a neighbor and was taking it to his truck when the box exploded. The man was taken to Christiana Hospital where he is listed in stable condition with non-life threatening shrapnel wounds.
Police say approximately 15 nearby homes have been evacuated, as investigators do another sweep of the home where the box of ammunition came from.
Neighbors say police told them they probably won't be allowed back into their homes until later Tuesday afternoon.
The Colonial School District has been notified in case students who live in the area aren't able to go home.
New Castle City Police, the Dover Delaware Bomb Squad and several other local law enforcement agencies are investigating the explosion.
