Transgender Woman Claims Manager Removed Her From NJ McDonald's Women's Bathroom

PAULSBORO, N.J. (CBS) -- A McDonald's owner in Paulsboro has issued a statement in regards to an incident that recently took place in the restaurant regarding a transgender patron.
The patron, Misty Hill, of Delaware alleges that a McDonald's manager asked her to leave the women's bathroom and the restaurant on Wednesday.

According to Hill's Twitter account, she says the manager "harassed," her three times while she was in the woman's restroom.
A spokesperson for the owner of the establishment told CBSPhilly.com that the manager of the establishment claimed that Hill spoke to a young girl in the women's restroom and that the girl was scared.. The manager claimed that the person with the girl complained and that is what prompted Hill's removal.
Hill denies the claims that she spoke to a young girl in the restroom.
The owner of the establishment, John Durante, issued the following statement:
"As an independent owner/operator, I personally strive to be inclusive and accommodating to all of my customers as well as my employees. Yesterday, Ms. Hill was able to use the restroom of her choice as is permitted under New Jersey Law. It is regrettable that a misunderstanding between her and another customer then ensued."
Target Faces Backlash Over Stance On Transgender Bathrooms
On Twitter, Hill also addressed the notion that she was not presenting herself as a woman at the time and shared a picture and further explanation.
This incident has taken place in the midst of a growing national rhetoric regarding transgender people and public restrooms.
