UPDATE: Amtrak Service Resumes After Train Car Catches Fire In Lancaster County
MANHEIM, Pa. (CBS/AP) — Emergency officials say a propane car has caught fire on a freight train Lancaster County, injuring one person, forcing evacuations and disrupting passenger rail service in Pennsylvania.
The car caught fire around 11 a.m. Tuesday in Rapho Township and one person had suffered burns by the time crews arrived. That's according to Randall Gockley, the county's director of emergency management.
Gockley says about 60 people are being evacuated within a three-block radius of the fire, which is still burning.
Amtrak suspended rail service between Harrisburg and Lancaster because of the fire, which involves a Norfolk Southern train. Amtrak says it's coordinating with Norfolk Southern at the scene.
The condition of the injured person wasn't immediately known.
Amtrak Keystone Service resumed between Harrisburg and Lancaster at about 5:30 p.m.
Amtrak says it appreciates the efforts of the first responders who worked throughout the day to contain the fire.
Passengers can expect a full schedule of normal service on Wednesday.
