Traffic Stop In West Philly Leads To Car Chase, Shots Fired In Upper Darby, Suspect In Custody

UPPER DARBY, Pa. (CBS) - It began as a traffic stop in West Philadelphia and ended with a car chase and shots fired in Upper Darby.
Police tried to stop a 2003 Buick at 63rd and Vine in West Philadelphia because the window tints were too dark, but the driver took off. They caught up to the car at 69th and Walnut in Upper Darby, and that's when officers say the passenger in the car jumped out and tried to run, when the officers gave chase on foot through a parking lot, they say the man turned and fired a shot.
"There was no mistaking them being police officers, they were in full uniform, they were operating a marked police wagon," Chief Inspector Scott Small said. "So this individual knew he was firing at police."
The man ran behind a building before police could return fire, but a 23-year-old suspect from West Philly who the two officers later ID'd as the shooter was picked up at Spruce and Cobbs Creek Parkway.
Police say he had an active warrant for a violent crime. The car was found abandoned at Marshall Road and Cobb's Creek Parkway.
