Tractor Trailer Carrying Cotton Catches Fire On I-295 In Delaware
NEW CASTLE, Del. (CBS) – A tractor trailer fire snarled traffic on I-295 in Delaware Friday afternoon.
The fire broke out around 3 p.m. in the northbound lanes of I-295 in New Castle.
Officials say the tractor trailer, driven by Latresha T. Wilkie of Irvington, New Jersey, was traveling north when it caught fire near Mike's Famous Harley Davidson.
Investigators say the truck, which was hauling cotton, is owned by Storewide Delivery Company based in Secaucus, New Jersey.
Authorities say all lanes of I-295 were closed at New Castle Avenue as firefighters battled the blaze. Three lanes have since reopened, but the northbound right lane and shoulder are still closed.
Officials say the driver of the truck jumped out of the cab and was uninjured.
