Tracking The 'Kensington Strangler'

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - CBS 3 got an exclusive inside look at the search for the Kensington Strangler; granted unprecedented access to ride with the lead investigator from the Special Victims Unit and his partner as they help lead the manhunt for the serial killer.

Detective James Owens and Sgt. Joe McEntee in their unmarked unit rode the streets where in the past three weeks, the strangler has killed 35-year-old Nicole Piacentini and 21-year-old Elaine Goldberg. He is also suspected of sexually assaulting four other women.

Detective Owens and his partner told CBS 3's Walt Hunter that they often think of the victims and their families.

Elaine Goldberg's family now distributing posters offering a $3,000 reward.

The detectives say, with little to go on, they hope tips from the public will help them catch the killer.

Police are also using high tech crime fighting tools in their search for the strangler. The FBI's Behavioral Analysis Unit, which creates profiles of serial killers, has also joined the investigation.

But departmental officials say in the end, it may well be the hard work of investigators department-wide, like detective Owens and his partner, that will crack the case and lead to the killer being caught.
