Towing Continues Ahead Of Pope's Visit In Philadelphia
By Justin Udo, Tim Jimenez
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- For the last few days the Philadelphia Parking Authority has been hard at working removing cars from their designated no park zone in anticipation of the Pope's visit.
More and more of the city is being affected by parking restrictions.
Last Sunday the PPA started towing vehicles around the Benjamin Franklin Parkway from the Art Museum extending east to 12th Street. On Monday that area expanded to north and south of the Benjamin Franklin Parkway. On Tuesday evening, towing went into effect on 12th Street to 3rd Street.
"It's been a disruption but it's a once in a generation type of thing," says Mark, who moved his car with plenty of time to spare.
He may be calm about the effects of the Papal visit but his neighbors, not so much:
"Yes, some of my neighbors are very angry and shaking their fist and I don't know what. And they're getting out of town."
Lani calls finding a spot "Parking Wars:"
"We're in the closest zone that you can park in, I believe."
Other streets affected include Fairmount, Spring Garden and Vine.
If your car is towed, you will be subject to a $76 fine, $175 in towing fees, and storage fees and your vehicle will be taken to one of three storage lots around the city.
