Tourism Official: Something For Everybody In Atlantic City

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (CBS) - With more gambling competition than ever, Atlantic City is promoting its multitude of attractions to attract tourists.

Atlantic City is doing extremely well, says Jeff Vasser, President of the city's Convention and Visitors Authority, and not just because you can find card dealers in lingerie or have a drink at the bikini bars on the beach. The resort town's marketing motto is "Always Turned On," but it is not the entire promotional strategy.

"We always have to find the balance and that's certainly especially true for us at the Convention and Visitors Authority where we market Atlantic City. We need to balance what has been a really tight-knit community for many years before gaming came in. With this new non-gaming, something-for-everybody type of destination that we've become," Vasser said.

Vasser points out that this resort town boasts a beach as well as blackjack, restaurants as well as stage revues and plentiful history for those into Boardwalk Empire.

"I always tell people, if you haven't been here in the past six or seven years you really wouldn't recognize it. We're very bullish about the future. It's not just about gaming and what we continue to provide are non-gaming amenities to give a traveler another reason to come here," Vasser said.

Vasser says AC can be a family resort and a sexy one and that you should come hungry. There are 16 new restaurants opening this summer.
