Tour de Shore Reaches Fundraising Goal Before Conclusion Of Bike Ride

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The 26th annual Tour de Shore kicked off in Center City Sunday morning.
The 65-mile Irish pub bike ride to Atlantic City reached its goal to raise $600,000 for children's charities before the event concluded.
"We will be able to support those charities that support the families of survivors. In addition, we support a variety of charities that are devoted to the needs of children," said Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Joe Sullivan who is also a board member for the Irish Pub Children's Foundation.
The 1,700 participating riders represent many cops and firefighters from southeastern Pennsylvania and southern New Jersey.
Organizers say the goal was easily reached.
Among the largest teams in the event was Montgomery County's "Wheels of Justice," with District Attorney Risa Ferman as the captain of 260 riders.
"We got started about five years ago. [We were] just sitting around the office one day and we said, we should get involved with this," said Ferman as she explained how it all started for her and her team. "A few of [our guys] had ridden in years past and said this would be a great way to honor fallen heroes."
For Montgomery County the ride had a very special meaning because they honored fallen Plymouth Township Police Officer Brad Fox and helped raise money for children.
"Last September, Montgomery County lost one of its own, we lost Plymouth TWP. Police officer Brad Fox. So this year's ride has a very special meaning," she said.
