Top Ways To Celebrate Star Wars In Philadelphia

May 4, 2013 is unofficially known as Star Wars Day because of the pun "May the fourth be with you" (instead of the force). And this is not just in the Philly area; it's a world-wide (possibly galactic) event that has transpired for decades. Naturally, you may want to get out and enjoy Star Wars Day, when many vendors offer special promotions and sales on Star Wars items both in store and online. Often, there are many characters walking about, both of the original cast and those who paying tribute.

Locust Moon Comics is right in the heart of University City and provides Tuesday night films for screening. The store and art gallery has hosted "Star Wars"-themed events that included "Stars Wars"-themed drinks and food. On Star Wars Day, "Star Wars" comics and related paraphernalia will be on sale at about 30 percent off. Bonus: May 4th is also National Free Comic Book Day, so you can get a free comic book. Comic creators will also be at Locust Moon to sign books, and Little Baby's Ice Cream will also be there vending delicious and unique creamy goodness.

If you don't already own the entire series, you can rent it for free from the Philadelphia Library. Invite over a few Jedi friends and serve up some grub. But don't just limit yourself to the six movies, which you may have already committed to memory. Consider watching some of the films that are related to the series. There is the hilarious Christmas special from 1977, "The Clone Wars" cartoon, or even the made-for-TV movie "Ewoks: The Battle for Endor."

The Please Touch Museum is exactly as stated: it's a hands-on, kid friendly place. On May the Fourth, it will bring out vintage "Star Wars" toys and costumed characters and offer arts and crafts for kids. In previous years, the Museum has brought out the black lights and highlighters and had kids make their own light sabers. And both children and adults can dress up in their favorite "Star Wars" costumes.

Rent or buy "Star Wars"-related costumes for your party or outing, kind of like an unofficial Halloween. Dress as your favorite Jedi, villain or braid and do your hair like Princess Leia. Many costume rental places have Chewbacca, Storm Troopers and various cloaks. Add some green makeup and pointy ears and you too can be Yoda.
