Almost all of the classes include materials, and they teach skills like planecraft, chiseling and milling. Three-day project courses to create specific furniture are also available for 2012.

Pick out your pottery, then stamp, stencil and glaze to your heart's content. One-day workshops also offer the opportunity to learn a new skill, like fused glass from a visiting artist for $30 and up. An added bonus at The Expressive Hand? For those whose inner artist is sparked by musical endeavors but stilted by lack of knowledge, consider a recording class. While on brief hiatus for the holiday season, throughout summer and fall Guitar Centers across the nation have been offering free recording classes every Saturday. Each focuses on a different aspect of the process, and beginners to professionals are welcome. Keep an eye out for the updated schedule as we head into 2012 if you'd like to unleash your secret rock star at home instead of at the karaoke bar.
