Coming off throat surgery and a prolonged break from the spotlight, seven-time Grammy winner, singer, songwriter and guitarist John Mayer is back with his first tour in three years. The tour supports his fifth studio album, "Born and Raised," which was released in February 2012 and went straight to number one on the Billboard 200. Mayer was unable to tour when his album was released because of a granuloma in his throat, but he is now back to good health and ready to hit the stage. "American Idol" winner Phillip Phillips will open for Mayer, so get there early.

Steely Dan is a Grammy award-winning and Rock and Roll Hall of fame-inducted jazz-rock group who rose to prominence in the early-to-mid 1970s. Disbanding in 1981, Donald Fagen and Walter Becker reformed the band in 1993 and have been playing live ever since. They released albums in 2000 and 2003 and won the 2001 Grammy for Album of the Year for "Two Against Nature." Recently, the duo has been working on solo material, but they still get together to perform live as Steely Dan. Their setlist will draw from their more than four-decade career.

Winston Yellen, the young 23-year-old singer-songwriter and creative mind behind the beautifully haunting Night Beds, is coming back to Philly on September 4 to play at Fishtown bar and music venue Johnny Brenda's. Night Beds released its debut studio album, "Country Sleep," in February of this year, which was met with rave reviews. The album is characterized by Yellen's strong vocals, soothing melodies and deep lyrics. A band on the rise, Night Beds sounds just as beautiful live as it does on the album.

It's been a busy year for Local Natives since releasing its sophomore album, "Hummingbirds," earlier in the year and then embarking on a tour to promote it. The group played a sold-out show at Union Transfer just last April and are now returning to Philadelphia on September 28, this time to play the Electric Factory with Wild Nothings. The five-piece Local Natives is an exciting and energetic indie rock band to watch. Hailing from Los Angeles, each member plays multiple instruments and sings in three-part harmonies.

Grammy-nominated Scottish singer-songwriter and guitarist KT Tunstall is coming to the Union Transfer on September 27 to support her fourth studio album, "Invisible Empire // Crescent Moon," which will be released on August 6. Tunstall is best known for her tracks "Suddenly I See" and "Blackhorse and the Cherry Tree," and she won the Brit award for British Female Solo Artist in 2006. She is known for her live performances, when she frequently uses a loop pedal both when performing solo and when backed by her four-piece band.
