Top 5 Things To Do On A Snow Day In Philadelphia

Trying to figure out a way to spend a snow day that doesn't include a couch and TV? Then look no further than this list of fun and exciting activities great for the whole family. Get out and see Philadelphia during the winter as the snow falls over pristine lands. Go to a park and go sledding or get out to the zoo and see some wildlife. Just because schools and major government buildings are closed does not mean you have to sit at home all day. So don't let the snow keep you cooped up at home. Philadelphia beckons and is as inviting as ever under a blanket of white.

This location offers up one of the most spectacular views of Center City and was enjoyed by the likes of George Washington and Benjamin Franklin.  When it comes to sledding, the hill has been described as a "monster," much to the pleasure of the young and old, alike.

This is the only outdoor rink in the city and is sure to be cleared of snow right away.  There is nothing better than skating round and round in the shadow of the Benjamin Franklin Bridge and then warming up in the rink's heated facility. It comes complete with snack bar and game room.

This oldest zoo in America sits on 42 acres and is home to more than 1,500 animals—many of which love to cavort in the snow.  It's beautiful, peaceful, and an opportunity not to be missed.  Warm-up spots include the reptile, primate, and small mammal houses. They are plenty docents waiting to answer all your questions on a quiet snow day. This educational venue is perfect on  a snow day.

This park offers more than five miles of trails as well as cross-country skiing and sledding. Traverse the trails with your kids and enjoy the outdoors while snowshoeing across the pristine snow-covered land.

As the day winds down, head to the RIM, voted both Philly's Best Coffee Shop and Best Tea House in 2010 by Philly Hotlist. Warm the family up with a cup of hot chocolate while sitting outside and enjoying the fresh blanket of snow.
