Pat Toomey: Philly Status As Sanctuary City is 'Egregiously Radical'
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Pennsylvania Senator Pat Toomey continued to raise objections to Philadelphia's status as a sanctuary city and is hoping to tie his opponent, Democratic Senate candidate Katie McGinty, to Mayor Jim Kenney in an effort to win re-election.
Toomey, during an interview with Chris Stigall on Talk Radio 1210 WPHT, said even the Obama Administration is against Philadelphia's position on undocumented immigrants is extreme.
"Philadelphia does have one of the most egregiously radical policies out there. President Obama's Secretary of Homeland Security traveled to Philadelphia personally to plead with Mayor Kenney to, at least, make exceptions for cases when the illegal immigrant they're holding is suspected by the Department of Homeland Security of being a terrorist or being a gang member. Could we at least make exceptions? Then could you cooperate and give us a heads up before you turn the person loose on the streets? The answer was no."
He denounced McGinty for her refusal to speak out against the city's actions.

"Katie McGinty, she's accusing me of being the one who is unreasonable here for even bringing it up. She can't bring herself to call for an end to this. She opposes my legislation which would bring an end to this kind of policy. This is just madness. It's not taking security seriously. Frankly, I don't think this is really about immigration. This is about our own security. When we know these people are dangerous and we decide, intentionally, to release them on to the streets, that's just crazy."
Regarding the election for President, Toomey, who has been careful to keep his distance from Donald Trump, blasted Hillary Clinton and her record while serving at the State Department.
"Clinton is completely, permanently unacceptable. We have seen her in office. We have seen what she did. In addition to jeopardizing classified information that jeopardizes our security, we have seen the decisions that she has made. Whether it's in Libya, whether is the incredibly failed Russian reset, whether it is lying to families of the men who were killed at Benghazi. Point me in the direction of any place, anywhere in the world, where American interests are more safe and more secure today than they were when she became Secretary of State. You can't because that place doesn't exist."
