To Run Or Not To Run? Tom Knox Decides No.
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Millionaire and former mayoral candidate Tom Knox has decided not to try again -- he will not challenge incumbent Michael Nutter's bid for re-election.
Tom Knox says he gave serious consideration to taking on Michael Nutter for mayor. But he says he had no stomach for what it would take to win.
"Unfortunately, in order win this election, I determined that it would require me to conduct a negative campaign against Mayor Nutter. That's not who I am, and that's not what I wanted to become," said Knox.
Another factor Knox says is family.
"My wife didn't want me to get into the race" said Knox. "My two kids said they'd be supportive but preferred that I didn't."
So Knox announced he won't run with Nutter at his side, along with former Governor Ed Rendell, and both Knox and Rendell formally endorsed Nutter.
That leaves Nutter with no major challengers at this point for either the May primary or the November general election.
