Tis The Season To Celebrate Christmas In July
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Bell ringers and red kettles are popular Christmas-time sites in Philadelphia but now it's July and they're coming back.
It's "Christmas in July" for the Salvation Army as volunteer bell ringers try to fill the coffers. Major Robert Dixon, director of operations, says the organization has seen a huge increase in need so extra money is needed.
"We provide shelter, clothing, and food activities for our young people in the summer with those funds. It also helps us during the balance of the year to continue to direct services for people," Dixon says.
Volunteers will be manning the red kettles in Center City from noon to 2 p.m. every Wednesday this month.
