Tips For Reheating And Eating Lingering Thanksgiving Leftovers
Philadelphia (CBS) – If you still have Thanksgiving leftovers in your refrigerator that you're eating this weekend, that food may be reaching its limit.
Roger Bassett, owner of The Original Turkey at the Reading Terminal Market, says when re-heating your Thanksgiving leftovers make absolutely sure that your reheated food is hot enough before you eat it.
"The key here is when you reheat your stuff you've got to bring it up to 160 degrees. Use a thermometer and use it within a day or two, no more than two days."
And Bassett cautions people to be careful if they took other people's food home with them as leftovers.
"A lot of people bring food to the party, right? So they've had it at their home. So how's it been handled there? Did they cook it and refrigerate it right away? The day before? Are they re-heating it properly on their table? Now, you're going to have re-heats of re-heats! And that's where you really could cause a problem."
He also says the weekend after Thanksgiving is a very common time for food poisoning.
"It happens a lot. If you go on the internet, you can see it happens quite often because people just don't get it cool fast enough and heat it up to the proper temperature."
