Tina Fey To Receive 2016 Lew Klein Media Award From Temple University
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Upper Darby native Tina Fey will return to Philadelphia this fall to accept an award from Temple University.
Fey, whose known for "Saturday Night Live," "30 Rock" and "Mean Girls" is a 2016 recipient of the Lew Klein Excellence in the Media award and will be honored at a ceremony hosted by Temple University's School of Media and Communication.
She's also expected to address students at an exclusive "Conversation with Students" reception.
The writer and actress did not attend Temple herself but her late father Donald is a SMC alum, class of 1966.
Earlier this year, Tina and her brother, Peter, also an SMC alum, memorialized their dad by creating a scholarship in his name for SMC students, specifically for military veterans who want to pursue a journalism degree to pay tribute to Donald's service in the Korean War.
The Lew Klein ceremony is set for October 7 which will be just shy of the one-year anniversary of Donald's death.
Fey is being recognized among five other honorees for her writing and acting work.
The award was named after Lew Klein to pay tribute to his broadcasting career and his more than 60 years of teaching at SMC.
"We are fortunate to call so many talented media and communication professionals our alumni," Klein said. "The only easy choice for honorees this year was the fabulous Ms. Fey."
Most recently, Fey starred as a war correspondent in "Whiskey Tango Foxtrot" and her work on the Netflix comedy "The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt" which she co-created with Robert Carlock.
