Tiger Woods Pleases Local Crowds at Aronimink
by KYW's Mike DeNardo
Competition is underway at the AT&T National tournament in Newtown Square, Pa. -- not only among the 120 pro golfers, but among the fans who are straining to get a glimpse of one golfer in particular.
The crowd cheered Tiger Woods all the way from the practice green to the first tee (see previous story). And his swing on the 430-yard par four did not disappoint golf fan Tony Francolino of Phoenixville, Pa.:
"Ohmigod, it was fantastic. I never saw a three wood go so far and so straight. It was unbelievable. And the crowd was electric -- gave him a good ovation. He played back to the crowd, tipped his cap, gave a wave. So it was very exciting."
Francolino says he expects that Tiger will repair his personal life and resume his golf dominance.
Mike Tomasic of Allentown, Pa. was amazed by the convergence of celebrity and golf talent at Aronimink:
"It's pretty incredible. It really is. This is quite a happening here. Watching him on the practice range earlier, watching a lot of them on the practice range earlier -- this is quite an event!"
