Tiger Woods Pats Philly Sports Fans On The Back
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – As tough, stubborn, and knowledgeable as Philadelphia sports fans can be, there is still one very direct and easy way into our hearts; a compliment.
Tiger Woods, when asked about the sports fans of Philadelphia on Tuesday at Merion, he took that very direct route. It would be hard for Woods to be a bigger fan favorite than he is, but this definitely won't hurt.
"This is one of the great sporting towns in the country. They're passionate about all sports," Woods said. " We had an event at Aronimink, and it was unbelievable. The fans were incredible. It was electric. And I think this week will be the same."
Cliche, perhaps, but it's better than any other tact he might take.
Woods is the favorite to win the US Open, which begins Thursday (weather permitting), even though he hasn't won a major tournament since 2008.
