Tourism officials in Delaware County are all smiles now that word is out that Tiger Woods will be playing in the AT&T National golf tournament this summer in Newtown Square, Pa.
The world's top-ranked golfer made the announcement on his web site saying he's looking forward to defending his title at the AT&T National, and he's excited to play at Aronimink Golf Club.
He calls Philadelphia a "great sports town."
Now that it's confirmed, Brandywine Conference and Visitors Bureau executive director Tore Fiore expects to see a spike in ticket sales and hotel room bookings:
"I think it enhances it, not only by the fact that he's coming to play, but maybe that's a decision that other professional golfers were waiting to see what happens, to see if they were going to play in this. So it's a win-win situation all the way around."
Fiore also plans to use the tournament as a springboard to promote the attractions in Delaware County even after the golfers leave.
The tournament runs from July 1st through 4th. Tourism officials say it could mean $25 million to the local economy.
